The provinces of South Sumatra and Jambi have started a Weather Modification Technology (TMC) program by sowing 10 tons of salt in the air as an effort to prevent forest and land fires (karhutla)

The Commander of the Indonesian Air Force Base, Colonel PnB Hernawan Widhianto in Palembang, Thursday, said that the Air Task Force for Handling the South Sumatra Forest and Land Fires had prepared a Cassa C212 aircraft imported from Abdul Rachman Saleh Air Base to oversee the TMC program for the next 15 days. "We also prepared 11 crew consisting of experienced pilots who used to do TMC and operate reconnaissance aircraft," said Hernawan after the opening ceremony of TMC activities in South Sumatra and Jambi. The team will sow salt in the cloud that still has the potential for rain, which is estimated to be at an altitude of 10,000 fit. There are four categories of areas that will be prioritized, including areas that have the potential for clouds to rain, areas that have hotspots (hotspots) and areas of peat.
