Booster Vaccination Begins January

In response to the increasing number of cases of the Omicron strain of Covid-19 in the country, President Joko Widodo decided to start a booster vaccination in January 2022.
In the first stage, the third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine will be given to residents aged 18 years and over who have received second vaccination with a period of more than six months. "I have updated about the booster vaccination program, the President has decided that it will run on January 12," said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin in a press statement after a limited meeting to discuss the weekly evaluation of the implementation of handling Covid-19. In a limited meeting, President Jokowi said that the number of cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in Indonesia had increased. With the findings of 152 Omicron cases, Indonesia is ranked 40th out of 132 countries that have experienced transmission of the Omicron strain virus. According to Budi, in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), this booster vaccine will be given to residents aged 18 years who have received two vaccinations. The interval for giving the booster vaccine is at least six months after receiving the second dose. "We identified that there were around 21 million targets in January that have entered this category and we will determine the type of booster later we will determine whether there are homologous or the same type. There are heterogeneous, different types," he said.
