INDONESIA Can Be Free from Imports of Fuel by 2030

The National Energy Council (DEN) noted that Indonesia could only be free to import fuel oil (BBM) in 2030.
The government's strategy to stop imports in 2017 is considered difficult to implement. This was stated directly by the Secretary General of the National Energy Council (DEN) Djoko Siswanto to CNBC Indonesia in the Energy Corner program, Monday (3/1/2022). "Due to the 2021 pandemic, the possibility of our refinery construction being a bit late and maybe in 2027 we won't import gasoline anymore, or maybe delay until 2030. That's what is in our RUEN (General National Energy Plan)," Djoko explained. The program to reduce gasoline imports in Indonesia, in accordance with Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 58 of 2019, will be replaced with electric vehicles and promote gas fuel (BBG). Then, the current government, said Djoko, is building a biofuel factory and is being carried out trial of low emission fuel A20 to replace fuel oil (BBM) type of gasoline. The A20 fuel is a mixture of gasoline with 15% methanol and 5% ethanol. "We are also building a Red and White catalyst factory, in collaboration with Pertamina, PT Pupuk Indonesia and ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology) as a catalyst for the production of 100% green fuel made from palm oil," said Djoko. "So that's what is in the RUEN program and our national green strategy," he said again. Previously, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif explained that the government and relevant authorities had prepared a strategy to stop importing gasoline-type fuel in 2027.
