Pandemic Becomes Momentum to Develop Medical Tourism

The chairman of the Indonesian Medical Tourism Association (AWMI) Taufik Jamaan said the Covid-19 pandemic which had lasted more than 1.5 years could be a momentum to develop Indonesia's health tourism industry.
This is because before the pandemic, many Indonesians preferred to seek treatment abroad. In fact, in terms of quality, there are many hospitals in Indonesia that have international standards. "Before the pandemic, Indonesia's foreign exchange was indeed a lot of going abroad, because around 2 million Indonesians went for treatment abroad every year, the value was around Rp. 100 trillion. Due to the pandemic, entrances to several countries have been closed. This should be an opportunity to develop medical tourism or medical tourism in Indonesia," said Taufik Jamaan, Wednesday (12/29/2021). “Our private hospital is capable in terms of diagnostics, in terms of health services, specialist doctors, all medical equipment is also sophisticated. We at AWMI also continue to encourage hospitals to develop services or tourist destinations that are connected to health services, both for the medical side and the wellness side," said Taufik. In the development of medical tourism, Taufik said the area that became the location of medical tourism became a hub or liaison between the medical and wellness sides. A total of 15 hospitals have also been appointed by the government to be pilot medical or health tourism, including Siloam Karawaci Hospital, Mayapada Lebak Bulus Hospital, Eka Hospital BSD Hospital, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Harapan Kita National Heart Center, Gatot Soebroto Presidential Hospital, Sanglah Hospital Bali, to the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Hospital.
