Private Actors Need Certainty on New Capital Relocation Regulations

Regulations regarding the relocation of the nation's capital city from Jakarta to North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara in East Kalimantan are still considered unclear.
The private sector believes that the construction of the national capital, which is projected to take place in the long term, requires a national consensus to ensure business certainty. This was stated by the Chairman of the Indonesian Real Estate Organization (REI) Advisory Board, Soelaeman Soemawinata. According to him, the relocation and development of the nation's capital city (IKN) will take decades to hundreds of years and cross several periods of government. “A national consensus is needed across several government periods. There must be clarity from the start, both in terms of policy, technical, and financial aspects," he said in the online discussion "Measuring the Risks of New Town Development IKN", organized by the Indonesian Association of Planning Experts (IAP). Soelaeman explained that the stages of IKN development require the integration of five dimensions, including regulations, infrastructure and resources, spatial planning, investment, and the creation of new lives.
