DPR Ready to Discuss ITE Law Revision

Deputy Chairman of the Information Commission of the House of Representatives, Abdul Kharis Almasyhari,
said his agency is ready to discuss the second amendment to the revision of Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions (UU ITE). "Because there is a proposal for improvement, and we are ready to discuss it with the government," the revision of the ITE Law is a government initiative. Several times, President Joko Widodo has also called for changes to these rules. President Jokowi asked for the change to prioritize aspects of justice for the Indonesian people. Kharis continued, until now the DPR is waiting for the government. Because, the revision must first enter the National Legislation Program and be reviewed in the Legislation Board of the DPR. After that, then the Information Commission can discuss it if the Legislation Agency assigns it to be discussed. Later, the Prosperous Justice Party politician continued, the DPR will open a discussion room and receive input from various groups. This is done in order to avoid the rubber article that could be in the revision of the ITE Law. Kharis also shared his experience when he was involved in the revision of the ITE Law in 2016.
