The 2021 Economy Becomes a Strong Foundation

"It is hoped that the Indonesian economy in the future can grow 4.7 to 5.6 percent," said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in a press statement after a limited meeting regarding the virtual implementation of restrictions on community activities (PPKM), the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted.
Indonesia's economic growth in the fourth quarter of 2021 reached 5.02 percent on an annual basis (yoy). Cumulatively, the economic growth rate throughout 2021 will reach 3.69 percent (yoy). Head of BPS Margo Yuwono said economic growth in the fourth quarter was supported by household consumption. This has always been a component that dominates economic growth. Therefore, Airlangga considered this to show the optimism of the community. In the first quarter of 2021, Indonesia's economic growth will still contract by 0.7 percent. In the first quarter of 2022, it is expected that growth can be pushed above 5 percent. Expectations are also quite high in the second quarter with the fasting period of Ramadan followed by Eid al-Fitr. Presidential Special Staff for Economic Affairs Arief Budiman in a written statement assessed that the economic growth in 2021 would be a strong asset to encourage economic recovery in 2022. The positive growth rate is believed to continue this year despite the emergence of a wave of transmission of the Omicron strain. This is because the vaccination is quite massive, marked by the coverage of the second dose of vaccination reaching 62.94 percent on February 6, 2022 and booster doses are continuously being carried out.
