South Sumatra and Jambi Perform Weather Modification Technology Seedlings of 10 tons of Salt in the Air

The provinces of South Sumatra and Jambi have started a Weather Modification Technology (TMC) program by sowing 10 tons of salt in the air as an effort to prevent forest and land fires (karhutla)
The Commander of the Indonesian Air Force Base, Colonel PnB Hernawan Widhianto in Palembang, Thursday, said that the Air Task Force for Handling the South Sumatra Forest and Land Fires had prepared a Cassa C212 aircraft imported from Abdul Rachman Saleh Air Base to oversee the TMC program for the next 15 days. "We also prepared 11 crew consisting of experienced pilots who used to do TMC and operate reconnaissance aircraft," said Hernawan after the opening ceremony of TMC activities in South Sumatra and Jambi. The team will sow salt in the cloud that still has the potential for rain, which is estimated to be at an altitude of 10,000 fit. There are four categories of areas that will be prioritized, including areas that have the potential for clouds to rain, areas that have hotspots (hotspots) and areas of peat. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry cooperates with various related parties to conduct TMC, namely the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), the Indonesian Air Force, BMKG, BNPB, and Sinar Mas. APP Director Sinar Mas Soewarso said his company strongly supports TMC's efforts as an effective measure to prevent forest and land fires. “As a company that does business in the forestry sector, of course, we have a responsibility to preserve the environment, including from the threat of forest and land fires. It is hoped that this TMC will be able to wet the peatlands, which have always been burned during the dry season,” said Soewarso.
