Government Must Be Firm on Companies

The government is asked to ensure the fulfillment of domestic coal needs and to impose sanctions on companies that comply with these provisions. Sanctions should not suffice with fines, but can also be in the form of export bans to revocation of operating licenses.
Firmness is needed to prevent the coal supply crisis for domestic needs from repeating itself. A lecturer at the Department of Economics and Business at the Vocational School of Gadjah Mada University, Fahmy Radhi, said that the discourse on the formation of a public service agency (BLU) that was put forward by the government was deemed inappropriate. BLU will collect levies on companies that export coal. The proceeds from the levy are used to cover the difference between the price of coal for domestic needs and the market price. “The BLU scheme is considered begging for entrepreneurs. I suggest that the sanctions be toughened for entrepreneurs who fulfill their obligations to meet the domestic demand for coal. Not against fines, but for example up to the revocation of production permits or export bans," said Fahmy in an online discussion "Domestic Coal Crisis: Quo Vadis of Coal Governance",
