Rare Palm Oil Sucked by Biodiesel

Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dadan Kusdiana, said the program for mixing diesel fuel with processed palm oil, namely fatty acid methyl ester (FAME), has been running since 2016 and sucks up the supply of CPO.
"This is one of the factors that affect world CPO prices," said Dadan to Tempo, last weekend. The increase in world CPO prices then became another factor that raised the price of cooking oil. Now, said Dadan, the biodiesel blending program continues and will even increase. The Ministry of Energy will gradually increase the mixing of FAME. The utilization of biodiesel is targeted to reach 10.1 million kilo liters by 2022. According to Dadan, apart from continuing the B30 biodiesel program, the government is currently preparing B40. According to the Secretary General of Gapki, Eddy Martono, so far the implementation of the biodiesel program has not interfered with the supply or price of domestic cooking oil. "What caused the high prices was indeed the international price of vegetable oil, including palm oil, which rose quite high," he said. "The program is mandatory and the volume is determined by the government, not entrepreneurs," he said. Director of the Center of Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS), Bhima Yudhistira, said the incentives from BPDPKS funds for biodiesel made entrepreneurs allocate more CPO for this fuel. and stable cooking oil prices, Bhima said, the government could sacrifice the biodiesel program for some time by increasing the DMO to 25-35 percent.
