Jabodetabek Electric Rail Train Fares: A New Year's Gift for Commuters

The plan is that the KRL fare for the first 25 kilometers will increase to IDR 5,000 per passenger from IDR 3,000 per passenger starting April 1, 2022.
The fare for the next 10 kilometers applies to the old price of IDR 1,000 per passenger. A member of KRL Mania, the Jabodetabek KRL user community, Untung Rohwadi, was surprised by the plan to increase the KRL tariff. According to him, the time is not right to increase the tariff for rail-based mass transportation because workers who are the main users are still affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Fortunately, he understands the anxiety of KCI management as the operator of the Jabodetabek KRL during the pandemic. The reason is that KRL passengers have fallen sharply due to the limited movement of people. In addition, he believes that KCI or KAI Commuter should be open about the plan to increase the KRL tariff. Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Adita Irawati explained that the Ministry of Transportation has not yet decided on an increase in KRL rates because the discourse is still under study. Currently, the KRL tariff still refers to the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation No. 17/2018," he said. So far, Adita explained that there is a discourse to increase KRL fares in early 2022.
